Oracle WAM staffing and consultants
Oracle Utilities Work and Asset Management (WAM) manages the asset registry, preventive and corrective maintenance, work orders, inventory and procurement for utility infrastructure. Work and Asset Cloud Service (WACS) is the cloud version. Mako staffs WAM programs with functional consultants, technical developers and integration specialists.

What Oracle WAM is
The system of record for what the utility owns and the work that keeps it running.
WAM connects assets, work and cost. Where the customer-facing side of the utility runs on Oracle CC&B and outage operations run on Oracle NMS, WAM governs the maintenance and capital work performed on the network itself, and feeds the cost of that work to finance.
WAM is built on the Oracle Utilities Application Framework, so extension work draws on our OUAF developer network. See our utility ERP and CIS practice for the wider role picture.
Asset hierarchy and registry
WAM holds asset and component records organized into hierarchies and locations, with specifications, nameplate data and service history. A clean registry design is the foundation for everything downstream: maintenance strategy, cost roll-up and regulatory reporting.
Preventive and condition-based maintenance
Maintenance schedules can be driven by calendar, runtime or meter-based triggers, and increasingly by condition data such as inspection results or sensor readings. Balancing scheduled work against inspection-driven work is the core planning decision the configuration has to support.
Work order lifecycle
Work moves from request through planning, approval, scheduling, execution and completion, accumulating labor, material and equipment cost. Getting statuses, approval rules and completion data capture right is what makes the resulting cost and history trustworthy.
Storeroom, inventory and purchasing
WAM manages storerooms, stock items, reorder levels, issues and returns, plus requisitions and purchase orders. Utilities with critical spares rely on this to keep restoration materials available without over-carrying inventory.
Crew and resource planning
Crafts, crews and resource availability drive scheduling and backlog management. Planners need visibility of capacity against committed work, especially when storm response pulls crews off scheduled maintenance.
GIS, mobile and ERP integration
Asset and location data typically originates in GIS, work is dispatched and completed through mobile workforce systems, and cost, inventory and procurement post to the financial ERP. These three interfaces carry most of the technical risk on a WAM program.
The WACS cloud path
Utilities moving to Work and Asset Cloud Service adopt a regular release cadence, which favors configuration over customization and makes standing regression testing part of normal operations rather than a project phase.

Where teams need help
The gaps that most often surface on WAM and WACS programs.
Asset data and registry design
Poor hierarchy and specification design is expensive to unwind later. An experienced asset analyst early in the program pays for itself in reporting and maintenance accuracy.
GIS and mobile integration
Keeping asset and location data synchronized with GIS, and work synchronized with mobile crews, requires integration developers who have done it on utility infrastructure before.
Maintenance strategy configuration
Translating a maintenance strategy into schedules, templates and triggers is functional work that operations teams rarely have spare capacity to do themselves.
Field adoption and testing
WAM succeeds or fails at the crew level. Test leads and change-oriented consultants who validate real field workflows prevent go-live rejection.
Oracle WAM and WACS staffing questions
What is Oracle WAM used for?
Oracle Utilities Work and Asset Management maintains the asset registry for utility infrastructure and manages the work performed on it, preventive and corrective maintenance, work orders, inspections, inventory and purchasing. It is the system that links what the utility owns to the work, cost and materials consumed keeping it in service.
What is the difference between WAM and WACS?
WAM is the customer-managed deployment, while Work and Asset Cloud Service (WACS) is Oracle's cloud-delivered version of the same functional footprint. Configuration concepts carry across, but WACS shifts environment management and release application to Oracle and rewards staying within supported configuration rather than custom code.
Do you staff GIS and mobile workforce integrations?
Yes. We place integration developers experienced with GIS asset synchronization, mobile workforce management dispatch and completion flows, and finance or ERP interfaces for cost, inventory and procurement. These interfaces usually determine whether field adoption succeeds.
What WAM roles do you place?
Functional consultants, asset management and maintenance planning analysts, inventory and procurement analysts, WACS solution architects, framework developers, GIS integration developers, test leads and project managers. Placements are available on a contract, contract-to-hire or full-time basis nationwide.
